24 October 2010:

Today, I got the news that a new friend of mine was tragically killed in a car crash .... the world is indeed a poorer place with his passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and to his young son and partner.

And to you," Damo", I say this:   may this next journey of yours take you to even greater heights than even you could have imagined. But if, by chance, you find the going a little tough at times, remember to whistle a tune to lighten the load :D
And rest assured, me and all the gang at Don Giovanni's will never forget their little pocket rocket in the kitchen ..... Rest in Peace . God Bless you, Damo.

Well  folks ! Due to a small matter of a little bit TOO much water, the scheduled gig at Don Giovanni's Restaurant did not eventuate :D

Short of growing gills and flippers, there was nothing for it but to watch the water rise and wonder at just how quickly Mother Nature decides what's best for us !!!

I am assured that this flood was by no means as bad as the '93 flood which cut the township of Benalla off from the rest of the world for 2 weeks .... thank heavens for small mercies :)

     Lady Whistler

She comes with the morning to drink of the dew.
She stays long enough as to welcome my view.
She lingers a while at the sill of my window,
               then swift as she comes,
             Lady Whistler is gone.
              She leaves with a song.
              She sings,
"   Lai- lai La -la lai La- la lai La -la la la Lai   "

I KNEW A MAN CALLED FREEDOM

I knew a man called Freedom
and a Minstrel was his trade.
He eked out an existence
from the music he made.
And every song he fashioned from
his Well of Memory.
They'd ring across the land
like Bells of Liberty.

A quiet man, a gentle man,
he'd strike a melody
with a guitar in his hand
and the rhythm at his feet.
He'd chart a course
thru his life's works
and detour now and then.
He'd leave you wanting more
so he could play them all again

And he'd sing:

    Red and Gold,
    As Old As Dirt,
   'Cos I Want To,
    Southern Girl,
    Rose Matilda dance with me,
    My Hillbilly Bride,
    Somewhere Between;
    Second Time Round,
    and Where'd You Go,
    Southern Cross or
    Vincent's Road,
    Laura's Tune,
    Widow's Walk,
    Jimmy's Gone To Africa.

I knew a man called Freedom
and he lived a life his own,
caring not for fame or fortune,
but the muse within his soul.
A quiet man, courageous man,
he marched to his own beat
with a guitar in his hand
and the rhythm at his feet

And he'd sing:
( chorus )

I knew a man called Freedom
and a Minstrel was his trade.
He eked out an existence
from the music he made;
and every song he fashioned from
his Well of Memory.
They'd ring across the land
like Bells of Liberty

when he'd sing:
(chorus)

"GOODBYE TO MY GIRL"
A Song for Rhiannon

Apricot sun
Over Shepparton
And I am early gone.
Caught by surprise
Tears I cannot hide
Saying goodbye to my girl.

Clouds kiss the blue,
Put to bed a paper moon
Still hanging with the Dawn.
Say to the Crone
Watching from her Lunar throne
Hey! You take good care of my girl.

Promised return
Soon as race of days is won
Lends comfort to my soul.
Tears for me still
On echoes of farewell,
Waving goodbye to my girl.

Caught in between
Want to stay and have to leave
Tearing me apart.
Word to the Crone
Watching from her Lunar home
Hey! You take good care of my girl.

Apricot sun
Over Shepparton,
But I'm already gone .

from 9RQR in Maryborough yesterday - lots of new faces ,
and a couple of old favourites that I haven't seen for 8months or more!
We started at the 'boozer' and then rocked on to the RSL in town
for a meal and a natter with a couple of feisty veterans ,
before checking out the nightlife along the Wharf!  I
t's been a long time between rages, I must say!
